BELIEFS AND APPROACH

little BALLERS believes that young children are energetic, curious, imaginative and capable. Our basketball lessons are strategically designed to be developmentally appropriate and highlight the way preschool and early years age children think and learn. We use adjustable basketball hoops that adjust from 2โ€™ to 4โ€™ and from 4โ€™ to 6.5 feet so every child in the program has a chance to make shots and build their confidence. We use age appropriate sized basketballs so each child will feel comfortable and get the most out of each activity. Sessions are delivered in a similar format each time to provide consistency and routine for learners. Our high teacher to student ratio of 1 teacher per 5 children ensures each child is given the attention they need to develop. Sessions feature early learning basics such as; counting, colours, matching, oral comprehension and imaginative play. We believe in a pressure-free, fun environment where children can be themselves and are valued for their unique qualities. Our specially designed Game Ball Curriculum balances basic movement skills with sports related skills little BALLERS are excited about. The result is fun, confidence and an introduction to the foundations of physical literacy. Little BALLERS is partnered with Basketball Manitoba! This is the Provincial Sport Governing Body for basketball in the province of Manitoba. Their initiative like ours, is to grow the sport of basketball.

ABOUT THE OWNER

COACH CHAD

Coach Chad Celaire has been involved in basketball as an athlete and coach for over 30 years.

As a coach, Coach Chad first discovered his love for coaching during his off-seasons, while playing basketball for the University of Regina in 1997.  While a student-athlete, Coach Chad built on his coaching experience and became a coach for summer camps with Athletes in Action in 1998. The summer camps program was under the direction of the chaplain for the Saskatchewan Rough Riders and Director of Athletes in Action Regina, Harold Cooper.

From 2002 to 2017, Chad also worked as a Youth Minister in Winnipeg. Some of his responsibilities involved directing summer camps and local recreation activities, and mentoring youth with an emphasis on character development and leadership.

Chad has played competitive sports most of his life, including badminton, volleyball, track and field, soccer, football, and basketball!! Basketball especially played a major role over the years, starting in Grade 3, progressing to the Alberta provincial team in the Canada Games, and university basketball with the University of Regina Cougars and on scholarship to Rochester University in Michigan. While at Rochester, the team took home second place in the National Small Conference Athletic Association Championships.

Chad had the privilege of learning and playing under top coaches, including Joe Petrone (Calgary), James Hillis  and Steve Burrows (Regina), and the โ€˜winning-estโ€ coach to that time in Michiganโ€™s history, Garth Pleasant. Coach Pleasant had these words to say about Coach Chad:

โ€œI had the privilege of coaching Chad in the early 2000 at Rochester College. Chad had incredible athletic skills & was an untiring worker. He cares for young people & any young person who is under his tutelage will benefit tremendously. Chad is a young man of integrity & his values are to be admired.โ€
